WIT Student Counselling service offers psychological counselling to registered full time students. Counselling is provided by a team of professionally qualified and accredited Counsellors and the service is directed by a Registered Psychologist.
Counselling provides a safe, supportive and confidential environment in which students can discuss any emotional or psychological difficulties they may be experiencing. This service is offered free of charge and operates by appointment only, details of how to make an appointment can be seen below. Among the problems which can be helped by attending counselling are:
mental health problems
interpersonal or relationship problems
sexual trauma/ rape /sexual abuse
The above is not an exhaustive list and you are encouraged to seek help if you are in emotional distress no matter how big or small you feel your problem is.
Counselling appointments usually last about 45 minutes and you will arrange with your counsellor how often and when you will meet. Due to the high demand for counselling services, a maximum of six counselling sessions is available to each student. If a student is in crisis or at risk, the number of sessions made available will be assessed on an individual basis.
It is important that you arrive on time for your appointment. If you arrive late your time will be shortened because your counsellor works on an appointment basis. At certain times of the year the demand for counselling exceeds our staff resources and there may be a waiting period before an appointment is available.
Counselling is available by appointment only.
To make an appointment phone 051 302878 or e-mail email@example.com.
When phoning or e-mailing to request an appointment, please leave your name and phone number. Your call or e-mail will be responded to as soon as possible either by a member of counselling staff or by our receptionist.
Text messages may be used by us to arrange and confirm your appointment.
If you are unable to keep your appointment, it is essential that you give at least 24 hours notice of cancellation. As counselling services are in constant demand throughout the academic year and our resources are limited, it is extremely important that you inform us by phone if you are unable to keep your appointment.
This allows another student to be accommodated and will help keep waiting times for counselling appointment as low as possible. Due to the high demand on the service, if you miss or cancel your appointment it is unlikely that another appointment will be available until the following week
